Area Maintenance Engineer Overview:

The Area Maintenance Engineer is responsible for overseeing and executing maintenance operations across three boutique hotel properties—Dauphine Orleans, Audubon Cottages, and French Quarter Courtyard—ensuring each property is fully functional, well-maintained, and safe for guests, associates, and visitors. This role plays a critical part in protecting the physical assets of the hotels while delivering a consistently high-quality guest experience.

Engineers in this role are self-starters with strong technical aptitude, an insatiable curiosity, and a hands-on approach. The ideal candidate demonstrates a remarkable work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with hotel leadership, team members, and external vendors. This position requires flexibility, organization, and the ability to prioritize work across multiple locations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform and/or coordinate preventive maintenance and routine inspections to minimize downtime and extend the life of hotel assets.
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations across three hotel properties, ensuring all building systems, guest rooms, and public areas are properly maintained.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide range of equipment and systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life-safety, and basic carpentry.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, local codes, brand requirements, and company policies.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations, prioritizing guest safety and operational continuity.
  • Coordinate with hotel leadership to plan maintenance projects, room turns, and capital improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
  • Provide guidance and support to on-site staff as needed, fostering a collaborative, service-oriented environment.
  • Monitor and maintain all building systems as assigned.

  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned.

  • Maintain a professional and courteous manner with all guests, vendors, contractors, and employees.

  • Complete grounds work as directed by Chief Engineer/ Engineer Manager

  • Responsible for alerting the General Manager of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that has taken place or that may occur.

  • Assure safety standards are used which comply with all company, local, City, State and Federal guidelines.

  • Minor Maintenance (Electrical, Plumbing, painting, caulking)

  • Winter weather maintenance of sidewalks and exterior paths

Job Requirements:

  • Prior hotel or multi-property maintenance experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance programs, and life-safety requirements.

  • Physical mobility and stamina.

  • Must be able to pass a background check

  • Ability to follow instructions.
